Yield

The return on an investment expressed as a percentage, usually annualised.

Why it matters: Comparing an after-tax yield against inflation is the only version of the number that means anything.

Year-End Bunching

Concentrating several years of deductible giving into one tax year to clear the standard deduction.

Why it matters: It converts donations that produced no tax benefit into ones that do.

Yield Curve

The relationship between interest rates and the term of a deposit or bond.

Why it matters: When short terms pay more than long ones, locking a multi-year rate stops being obviously sensible.

Yield Spread

The difference between the rate a lender obtains funds at and the rate charged to you.

Why it matters: It is where retail lending margin lives, and it is why shopping lenders moves the number.
